It is the case that a sizeable number of children in Uganda have now been (and are being) diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). I found it quite shocking considering the likes of ADD, ADHD, Bi-polar are more prevalent in the western hemisphere than elsewhere. Why are children labeled with these mental disorders and then put on psychotropic drugs?

Apparently, the statistics stand at 320,175 out of the
entire population. But these stats are only extrapolations, therefore are highly
inaccurate. The number has to be much much lower.
The most prescribed drug to treat ADHD is Ritalin. It contains
methylphenidate which is a Central Nervous System stimulant, affecting
chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse
control.
The drug is made up of some similar compounds that are
found in cocaine and speed (street drugs or contra-bands). The American Food and Drug administration (FDA) classifies it with cocaine and morphine because it is highly addictive. It is prescribed to
remedy a chemical imbalance in the brain that is displayed in symptoms ( such as: making lots of careless mistakes
at or home, not paying attention or following instructions, non-stop talking
not waiting one’s turn etc), out rightly diagnosed as ADHD.
Ritalin Side effects include: addiction (because it’s an
amphetamine-like substance), insomnia, agitation, anxiety, irritability, heart
palpitations, eyesight changes/blurred vision, slowing of growth (height and
weight in children). Are you willing to subject your child to this?
Studies show that all drugs containing methylphenidate
carry significant risk of serious, even life-threatening adverse effects. As such, the FDA requires “black box”warnings to appear on drug packaging. The agency also recently issued a
safety warning that such drugs must include the risk of Priapism.
Many children who are given these drugs don’t actually
have ADHD and thus the drugs do not work for them because the symptoms are
caused by a poor diet.
It’s true that there are children who are predisposed to
having a chemical imbalance in the brain. In that case, these drugs affect them
by making them more docile, stabilizing the mood and improving the ability to
concentrate. ADHD is genetically passed down the male line, so before you get
your child to pop pills, be sure that you, your father, grandfather, great
grandfather all have or had it. If not, make dietary changes for your child. Even the ‘father of ADHD’ stated, before his death, that it is a fictitious disease.
It seems very
fashionable, these days, to diagnose children with a multitude of mental
conditions. In the US, doctors get paid by certain pharmaceutical companies
every time a drug is prescribed. Clearly, there is room for a doctor to prescribe
a drug you do not need in order to make more money. And because a parent will
do anything for their child, one goes along in ignorance with the doctor’s
advice. Drugging children into
submission from adulthood, normal childhood behavior has been turned into a
disease.
A must watch documentary, The Medicated Child, will do
some eyeopening. Don’t let your child turn into another “mindless drone.”
